The year 1949 marked the starting point of a creative collaboration between the Sokol Plant and the Design Bureau of Artem Mikoyan. The first aircraft that resulted was the MiG-15, designed by Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurvich. The MiG-15 was serially produced in the Sokol Plant from 1949 to 1952. From 1950 to 1952, the combat ability of the MiG-15 was tested in the North Korean Sky. The jet proved to be one of the first successful swept wing fighters and led to the development of the MiG-17 that challenged American fighters in the Vietnam war.
