Before
you can compete in a Kiwi Road Rally, you'll need to obtain your
motor sports license. Our expert instructor will help you complete
this process in as little as two days.
Here's
how it works: Prior to your adventure, we'll send you study materials
to review. Not only will you have something to read on the long
plane flight over, you'll know exactly what you need to know to
pass the written portion of the licensing test.
When
you arrive in Auckland, you'll spend one day in the classroom
and another on a race track.Topics
you'll cover include:
- First
aid (good to know in the event of a driving mishap)
- Car control
- Basic
mechanical skills (your mechanic can't be in the car with you)
- Basic
car set-up
- An intro
to navigating
- Rally
instruction & procedures
- For those
who need it."how to drive on the wrong side of the road"
- Loss of
traction
- Racing
starts off the line
- Heel and
toe braking and gear changing
- What to
expect on the closed roads.
- What type
of corners to watch out for.
- What to
do if you come across an accident
- What to
do if you are involved in more than a minor crash and are stuck
in the stage
The practical
instruction day will be on the same road surface as the rally,
(for example, gravel or tarmac)
Between competition
stages, you'll be required to drive on public roads with other
drivers and obey all traffic laws. In New Zealand, the left side
is the right side of the road. During the competition itself,
you'll be the only car on the road and can decide which side is
the right side for you.
Note: Both
participants will complete the coursework and training and receive
licenses. This allows the driver and navigator to switch places
on multi-day events. For one-day events, we recommend keeping
the same driver throughout the day.
