The Adventure: Here’s your chance to travel back in time to WWII. Strap on a parachute and take the controls of a historic warbird. Perform loops and rolls in one of the favorite aircraft flown by Navy, Marine and Air Corps fighter pilots during WWII.

The Location: Flights depart from Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, California. The airport is located less than one hour from downtown San Diego and approximately 2 ½ hours from Los Angeles Airport.

The Plane: A Great Warbird is a Great Warbird By Any Name

Called the SNJ by the Navy and the T-6 by the Air Force, the aircraft was known as “the pilot maker” because of its important role in preparing WWII pilots for combat. The trainer was retired by the US in the 1950’s. Of the more than 17,000 built by North American, only about 350 are still flying today. The SNJ features a greenhouse canopy, tandem seating, dual-stick controls, four-point harnesses, parachutes and a tailhook for carrier landings. It’s also big, noisy and fast.

Are there any restrictions? The SNJ is a big, tough bird. The main age and physical requirements are being able to climb into the plane and see out of the cockpit. (That said, if you’re taller than 6’8” or weigh more than 350 lbs. this isn’t the plane for you.) Flights can be as energetic or smooth as you want.

Can I give this as a gift? Certainly! Many people do. If you want the lucky *!@*!** in your life to get the leather jacket before his or her big day, please allow up to 4 weeks for its delivery.

How does scheduling work? When you pay your money, you receive a flight ticket and the top secret phone number you’ll need to call to reserve your warbird adventure. Tickets are valid up to one year from purchase. Our planes fly 7 days a week but advance reservations are required. If you don’t show up for your scheduled flight, you’ll make us mad and we’ll keep your money.

Is it safe? Everything in life is risky and you will need to sign a waiver signing away your life before climbing into the cockpit. That said, in 10 years of flying, our partners have a perfect safety record.
