Good
Bye 2009 Hello 2010!
Happy New Year from our family to yours.
Celebrating the Human Spirit
On December 6th, Canadian David Shannon made
a tandem HALO jump from an altitude of
28,187 feet to show "there's no limit to the potential
of the human spirit, regardless of any disability". The
high-altitude skydive was just the latest in a series of adventures
for the quadriplegic man and his friend Christopher Watkins.
Frigid temperatures forced the first jump flight to be aborted. Jumpers
had to land and wait for warmer temperatures to make sure oxygen lines
wouldn't freeze and there would be sufficient air for the jumps. When
they finally jumped, the air was still a bone-chilling 37
below zero.
Video of David Shannon's record-setting skydive can
be viewed on our website. You can
read more about Shannon and Watkins, and their efforts to create a scholarship
fund for students with disabilities, on their website: www.teamindependence.ca.
Train to Fly Higher than Santa
Suborbital space flight training is now available
at the John F Kennedy Space Center, near Orlando, Florida. The three
day program combines classroom academics with a special training flight
in the Mach 2 Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Mercury, Gemini and
Apollo astronauts trained for space in the legendary F-104. Now, the
Starfighter has a new role, preparing civilians for the physical
and mental challenges of a suborbital space flight.
The
cost of the three day program is $30,500. You can read the detailed
training itinerary on our website but if you really want to know
all the top secret details, (and why the program is worth
every penny) you need to call us
at 800-644-7382.
Family Time Can Be an Adventure
Among the first to sign up for the new Starfighters
Aerospace Space Flight Training Adventure were a husband and
wife from Florida and a father and son from New York.
While
most of our adventures are designed for adults, traveling either alone
or with friends, family or co-workers, we do offer several "teen
friendly" adventures. Programs open to younger adventurers
are indicated on our
website by a yellow star.

We'll Be
Home for the Holidays
|
|
We'll
actually be lots of other places too, but in our Sarasota office
isn't one of them. We'll be going out for our traditional
holiday lunch on Wednesday, December 23rd and not coming back
to work until Monday, January 4th.
(Actually, only 3/4 of our Sarasota staff will be leaving work
on the 23rd. Poor Judy is home recovering from a nasty fall
involving a kayak. It may be awhile before she can climb
the stairs to our second-story office.)
Don't let the fact we're not in the office keep you from planning
an incredible adventure. We work even when we're not at work. We'll
still be checking our voice messages and emails.
We just might be a little slower than usual responding
to requests. (It's hard to respond to messages from
the beach without getting sand in your keyboard.) We hope you'll
understand.
Christmas in Russia comes January 7th, so our people in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod
will be taking their holiday vacation from January 1st until January
10th.

Over a Car
and Through the Mud, a Tank Driving We Will Go
|

What
could be more fun than driving
a tank? How about driving three of them? Our newest driving

you've mastered driving the British Abbot, it's time to take the FV-432
APC out for a spin. (APC stands for Armored Personnel
Carrier.) Finally comes the event you've been waiting for...the
chance to drive a 60 ton Chieftain Battle Tank up and over
a car.
Tank driving adventures take
place in Minnesota, less than a 90 minute drive from
St Paul /Minneapolis Airport and are offered on select weekends
from April through October. The cost is $975 and gift
certificates are available. For more information on IA's
newest driving adventure, visit our website or contact Sheri.
