Tim Taylor to Receive The Explorers Club's Citation
of Merit
January 8, 2008 - New York, NY - On March 15, 2008,
ocean explorer Tim Taylor will be awarded the Explorers Club's Citation
of Merit at the organization's
104th Annual Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The
Citation of Merit is awarded to a member in recognition of an outstanding
feat of exploration and/or service to the Club. Previous Citation
winners have included ocean explorers Dr. Sylvia Earle and Dr. Robert
Ballard, polar explorer Will Steger and mountaineer Jim Whittaker.
Few individuals have led as many ocean expeditions as
Tim Taylor. The owner of his own research and exploration company,
he has had the honor of leading eight Explorers Club Flag expeditions,
dozens of scientific explorations and numerous National Geographic
projects. The expeditions represent a wide variety of marine issues,
ranging from mid and deep coral research, the geology of stromatolites,
shark populations, marine archaeology, invasive species, and mapping/sonar
scanning of little known reefs. Taylor's work with top scientists,
researchers, and explorers across the breadth of marine issues epitomizes
the spirit of an explorer. From being the first to dive and photograph
the deepest coral reef in the world to supporting important geological
and biological research and outreach projects, Taylor has made significant
contribution both on and under the ocean.
In
addition to his research projects, Taylor leads and organizes expeditions
for international television and film companies. He is co-owner of
Aquatic Films, Inc. and his filming credits include James Bond movies,
as well as recent filming for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
pilot Project X and a TNT special of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon cage
diving with tiger sharks. Taylor is currently developing a program
to integrate new technologies into current research projects along
with developing educational outreach programs.
Tim Taylor also leads shark
diving adventures with Incredible Adventures of Sarasota, FL and
is also a member of their Adventure
Team.
For over a century, the Explorers Club Annual Dinner
has celebrated global exploration and scientific pursuits, honoring
some of the world's top explorers and researchers. The 104th Explorers
Club Annual Dinner will feature as its theme "Exploring Planet Ocean."
