Adventure Company Receives Approval to Offer Night Flights in Russian Fighter Jets

Incredible Adventures now offers supersonic night flights over Russia in the MiG-29 Fulcrum. The night flights are available for the first time, thanks to recent runway lighting upgrades at the Sokol factory where the company's flights take place.

August 24, 2011 - Those visiting Russia to fly a MiG-29 fighter jet with American company Incredible Adventures now have the option of scheduling a supersonic flying adventure at night, thanks to recent runway lighting improvements at the Russian aircraft factory where the flights take place.

Russian fighter pilots often train for night missions by practicing combat maneuvers after dark, but flights at night have always been off limits to civilians.

"We're really excited to be able to offer night flights for the first time in our company's history," said Incredible Adventures President Jane Reifert. "Just flying in a MiG-29 is incredible. Now, imagine taking off in darkness and performing combat-style maneuvers with a view of the city lights below you."

Sarasota, Florida based Incredible Adventures has been arranging MiG flights over Russia since 1993. The flights are offered through a special arrangement with the Sokol Aircraft Plant in the town of Nizhny Novgorod. The company's customers are transported to the base from Moscow by either train or commercial flight. Participants fly with one of the MiG factory's English-speaking test pilots after being fitted for a flight suit and helmet and briefed on safety procedures.

The Sokol factory has been manufacturing MiG fighters for over 75 years and is currently the only place in the world where civilians can legally buy a ride in a supersonic fighter jet. Virtually any adult in reasonably good health can fly, assuming he or she meets basic height and weight requirements. No pilot's license or prior flying experience is required, but there is a security clearance procedure that can take up to sixty days, so advance planning is essential.

Incredible Adventures has arranged more than 2500 adventure flights for individuals from all over the world. Currently, the company's most popular flying adventure is a five day, four night package that includes a high-altitude flight in the MiG-29, flight video, luxury hotel accommodations, tours and transportation within Russia.

MiG-29 flights can be arranged all year long, but the new night flights will only be available during Russia's winter months. Special sunset flights can also be arranged. Pricing starts at $21,500 for a multi-day adventure.
