Adventurers Skydive Denali and Make History

Denali Skydive Group PhotoOn Thursday, June 25th, an incredible group of men became the first to Skydive Over Denali. They exited higher than the highest mountain in North America, braved temperatures reaching 60 below and spent up to 30 minutes under canopy before landing near an Alaskan river. Some Skydive Denalihit the designated target. Others landed short and needed to be picked up by helicopter. The event proved to be more of an incredible adventure than any could have imagined.

At times, it seemed as if Denali planes glacier landingthis historic skydive would never happen, but happen it did.  An initial request to land on a glacier near Mt McKinley was denied by the National Park Service. The original jump plane failed to get approval from the FAA to fly without a door. But, problem solving is one of the things we do best. A landing zone outside the park was located and a great jump aircraft was flown in from Seattle.

Weather proved to be the biggest obstacle. "The mountain makes its own weather", we Skydive Denali Team Membersheard time and time again from the locals. But finally, on the day everyone was set to pack up for home, the skies cleared and the sun appeared.  The mountain known as "The Great One" decided to welcome us after all!

See great photos, read about the men who jumped and learn the history of this incredible skydiving first here.
