DC-3 / C-47
Experience takeoffs, landings, approaches, taxiing and more. Note: Only a basic pilot’s license is required for orientation and familiarization flights, but to obtain an SIC (Second-In-Command) or PIC (Pilot-In-Command), pilots need to already have a multi-engine rating. It is recommended that pilots seeking an SIC or PIC rating obtain a tailwheel endorsement in a smaller aircraft like the T-6 first, to reduce the amount of time needed to achieve the SIC or PIC rating.
Sample DC-3 SIC Type Rating Training Syllabus
- Preflight & Start
- Taxi & Run up
- High speed Taxi Takeoff
- Crosswind Takeoffs & Landings
- Aborted Takeoffs – Engine Failure
- Engine Out
- Steep Turns
- Go-Around
- Emergency Operation of Gear
- Propeller overspeed
