Planes, Beasts & More - Johannesburg, South Africa

Start your South African adventure with a four-day/three night stop off in Johannesburg.

Sample Itinerary:
Day 1: Met at Johannesburg International Airport. Escorted to the ultra hip Melrose Arch Hotel. Evening free to relax in the hotel’s one-of-a-kind pool, watch a DVD in your room or check out the area’s nightlife.

Day 2: Option A - Join our friends at Big Sky Adventures for a day on the water, on the track and in the air. Ride in a 500 hp V8 race car, a 200 km/hr Formula One power boat and a 380 km/hr Pitts S12 “Monster” advanced aerobatics biplane. You’ll have the evening free to explore.

Option B - Swap the car, boat & Pitts for an incredible jet flight - either in an L-29 or L-39.

Day 3: It’s off to Pilanesburg National Park to see lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, hippos and more. Pilanesburg is located near legendary Sun City and covers 212 square miles, making it the fourth largest national park in southern Africa. It’s malaria free.

Hey! While you’re in the area, consider adding a flight in a historic Tiger Moth biplane.

Day 4: Depart for Cape Town

Sharks, Whales & Sardines

Dive with great white sharks, watch the whales or follow the annual Sardine Run. It’s all possible in South Africa.

False Bay Sharks: This shark expedition begins in Simons Town, located just south of Cape Town. Cage diving is possible, but this is the home of “Air Jaws”. You can see amazing great whites without getting in the water.

The fun begins before dawn. Sharks like their breakfast early in the morning. You’ll travel out to Seal Island where you’ll begin the search for shark activity. A lone seal swimming back toward the island is likely to catch the eye of a hungry shark. Circling gulls indicate an attack in progress. Read more >

Gansbaai Sharks: Further south is the area often called “Shark Alley”. Here, breaching activity is slightly less so cage diving is the norm. You don’t have to be a certified diver but some underwater experience is advisable. This area is also known for whale viewing. Read more >

Sardine Run: Each June, tons of sardines migrate along the coast of South Africa. They form giant bait balls, providing an annual feast for sharks, dolphins, whales and birds. Join our guy Nic on the Sardine Run and dive into the action. This package includes lodging, some meals and a feast of adventure activities. Read more >

Wild Animal Safari

We’re friends with some incredible safari operators. Just tell us what you want and we’ll see what they can do.

Enjoy five-star luxury at Kruger National Park. Twice-daily game drives provide plenty of chances to get great photos.

Book a photo safari with our guy Mark and see less traveled areas of Africa.

Spend time at the legendary Sun City resort. Ride elephants, ride waves, gamble and more. Pilanesburg National Park is a short drive away. The park is home to lions, elephants, rhino and more.
