Spend Halloween With the Sharks
Cage Dive With Ghosts Near The Devil's Teeth
Join us for an October 31 expedition to our favorite spooky place. Our shark boat will depart in eery darkness from Marina Bay Yacht Harbor in San Francisco's East Bay. We'll travel more than 25 miles offshore to San Francisco's Farallon Islands, in search of great white sharks.
We can't guarantee you'll see a great white shark, but we promise you sharks will be there, circling the islands in search of prey, just as they've done for generations. Adult white sharks travel to the Farallones each year to feed on the local seal population.
We do not bait at the Farallones. Instead, we deploy a seal-shaped decoy to attract sharks and we scan the horizon for natural feeding events, which can have all the blood and gore of a horror movie.
Early Native Americans refused to set foot on the Farallon Islands. They believed the islands were inhabited by spirits and called them "The Islands of the Dead". Ancient Spanish Mariners also feared the islands, calling them "The Devil's Teeth". (Countless ships trying to reach San Francisco were driven into the rocks by strong winds and storms. More than 400 ship and aircraft wrecks are thought to exist within the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.)
Masks will be required on the boat to protect against COVID, and trip capacity is being limited to provide extra deck space for participants. The $825 per person cost includes the use of a wetsuit, dive assistance and onboard meals.
