Key West Shark Weekend An incredible dive adventure aboard the Research Vessel Tiburon

SCHEDULE A WEEKEND WITH SHARKS!

This extreme adventure takes you deep within the Tortugas Ecological Reserve and Marine Sanctuary to a very special gathering place for:

Depart Key West and travel 75 miles west to the largest protected sanctuary in the US territorial waters. Explore a wild and unique site of shark aggregation. No cage will separate you from the action of the sea. Take advantage of a unique wildlife photographic opportunity.

Adventure Itinerary

THURSDAY Check in at Safe Harbor Marina, Key West, Florida at 5 PM. Refreshments and appetizers served from 5 PM to 6 PM. Orientation and safety briefing followed by 8PM departure. Travel overnight to shark location 75 miles out.

FRIDAY The day begins with an early morning rendezvous with a commercial

shrimp-fishing vessel. See first hand the process of bringing shrimp from the ocean to the market. The next three days will be spent in different types of diving encounters with wild, untamed sharks that aggregate to feed off the shrimpers by-catch. It's not uncommon to see adult lemons, Caribbean reef, great hammerhead, sandbar, bull shark, tiger and nurse sharks. Great numbers of turtles, Goliath grouper and pelagic fish are also attracted to the feeding event.

SATURDAY More incredible diving and encounters with loggerhead turtles.

SUNDAY Morning shark encounters followed by a Noon departure for Key West. Docking by 8 PM. Overnight stay for those with Monday flights.

Optional Program Upgrades

Arrive by sea plane. We can arrange for a thrilling sea plane flight to the Dry Tortugas, where you'll meet the R/V Tiburon and begin your shark adventure. Call for pricing and details.

Learn to use a rebreather. Divers can enroll in a pre-adventure rebreather course. We can also arrange for equipment rental and purchase. A rebreather allows one to dive “without the bubbles” that can frighten away sea creatures. Call for pricing and details.

Program Notes: All laws regarding interaction with turtles are followed. All participants must be good swimmers but dive certification is not necessary. The price includes on-board, shared accommodations and meals. Air travel is not included.
